The course
Barcelona redrew this course in 2024 — the tenth version since 1980 — after building work closed the old Plaça d'Espanya start. What replaced it is flatter, more central and faster: a flatter redraw with fewer turns.72 km. It starts on Passeig de Gràcia, between Gran Via and Plaça Catalunya, in sight of Casa Batlló. Carrer Marina rises early, then the Eixample grid takes over: Aragó, then València unbroken from 5 km to 10. Pacing here is simple. Holding attention is not. The opening is busier underfoot than the profile suggests — the first half climbs 76 metres to the second half's 58, and the high point is the Sagrada Família at about 14 km. Then the city opens up. Down Paral·lel to the Columbus Monument, past Estació de França and the Parc de la Ciutadella around 25 km, and out along the seafront from 27, where the wind is the only real variable. A Diagonal Mar out-and-back carries the race to roughly 35 km. The return runs Diagonal and Poblenou — flat that stops feeling flat — before Carrer Marina rises a second time after 38 km and carries you under the Arc de Triomf.
