The course
One lap, out from the 1972 Olympic Park and back into it. The start is on the Spiridon-Louis-Ring, beneath the tent roof and the Olympic Tower. The course runs south through Schwabing — Elisabethstraße into Leopoldstraße, the Siegestor — down to the Sendlinger Tor, where it turns and comes back north through the centre by the Rindermarkt and Dienerstraße, reaching the university quarter and the first real crowds around 10 km. Then Martiusstraße and the Englischer Garten, rounded in full, and out across the Isar near Tivolistraße at roughly halfway. Montgelasstraße, Oberföhringer Straße and Cosimastraße carry the race east, then south to the Werksviertel around 32 km. The Ludwigsbrücke brings it back over the river to the Isartor and one last pass through the city centre — Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz — before the Siegestor a second time and Franz-Joseph-Straße north to the park. The finish is at Willi-Daume-Platz, beside the Olympic lake rather than inside the stadium.
