The course
Brighton starts in Preston Park, inland, and spends the rest of the race deciding how to use the seafront. The opening miles are the only ones with any inland character: a short climb up Preston Park Avenue, the drop down Preston Drove, then north and back down London Road past the Theatre Royal and the Royal Pavilion, round The Level, and up St James's Street. After that the course reaches the coast and does not really leave it again. East first, along Marine Parade and onto the clifftop road — rolling rather than flat, the Channel open on your left. A short climb leads into the U-turn at Ovingdean, then the return west past Brighton Marina, Madeira Drive, the Palace Pier, the i360, the Grand Hotel, the Peace Statue. The last third belongs to Hove — Grand Avenue and Church Road inland, then Kingsway and the promenade. The finish is on Hove Lawns, beside the sea.
